In the heart of southwest Montana, Ennis (pop. 860) in Madison County is located on the banks of the Madison River in the heart of the world's best fly fishing country. It offers the unusual combination of fishing and hunting outfitters, artists and rodeo. Ennis is also a hub for surrounding communities and visitors to our area. Dozens of businesses provide support services for residents and tourists including a new emergency care clinic and hospital, groceries, gas, auto repair, library, movie theater, restaurants and lodging.
The Madison Valley is known for its pleasantly cool summer days and very low humidity. Fall is punctuated by the change in nature's colors as the Aspen trees turn to gold and the pasture land to beige. The nights and mornings are crisp and the days filled with sunshine. Wintertime brings snow and cold weather, but the sun continues to shine throughout the season, creating a unique and quiet beauty. Spring rains herald the warming trend and the completion of nature's cycle of life for the flowers and the abundant wildlife… in paradise. (Source: http://www.ennischamber.com)
The elevation of Ennis is 4985' with the highest peak at 11,300'. The Madison Valley is bordered by the Centennial Range on the south, the Tobacco Root Range to the north, the Gravelly Range to the west and the Madison Range to the east. The Madison River flows north to Three Forks where it converges with the Gallatin and Jefferson Rivers to create the headwaters of the Missouri River.
Hiking, horseback riding, a rafting and golfing are on the Ennis list of things to do. Fourth of July weekend every year brings cowboys and cowgirls from around the country to compete in the Ennis Rodeo. August also brings the Ennis on the Madison Fly Fishing Festival and Hunters Rendezvous. October features the Hunters Feed & Wild Game Cook-off.
Like many area towns, Ennis was founded by a homesteader, William Ennis. The three blocks comprising Ennis' down town still boasts the old-west style facades. Several art galleries featuring local artists can be found downtown along with shops catering to fishermen and hunters. Trading Post style shops and antique stores can also be found in Ennis.
By working with our team of real estate professionals who live and work in the beautiful Madison Valley, you'll receive the combined benefit of local expertise and national exposure.
